This film genre concerns itself with the lives and personalities of women. Cinematic expression is one of the means to critique society and raise social concerns, and women play an important role in this. Women have played an important role in Iranian cinema, particularly after the Islamic Revolution. Censorship could not stop the evolution of women’s roles in Iranian cinema. Due to the government’s limitations on women, cinematographers and directors have had to employ unique methods to portray female characters and different parts of their lives in Iranian cinema. As a result, women represented in Iranian cinema have captured the attention of viewers worldwide, including critics and observers, to an unprecedented degree.
