Ahmad Rizā Darvīsh (born July 24, 1961, Tūysirkān, Hamadan, Iran) began his film career in 1982, as a television director, after completing his studies in graphic design and architecture at the University of Tehran. Darvish’s first feature film The Last Flight (Ākharīn Parvāz) debuted in 1989. His fourth film Kīmīyā (1995), received critical acclaim and generated a variety of reactions from young audiences, film critics and professionals, as well as cultural authorities. Similarly, his sixth work Born Under Libra (Mutivallid-i Māh-i Mihr, 2000) was well received by young viewers, while critics and cultural authorities had differing opinions. In 2014, Darvish was hailed in a ceremony in Iran and received an award as a champion (jihadist) of art and culture in recognition of his long-standing contributions to Iranian cinema.
