Beautiful City follows Akbar, who has spent years in Tehran’s Center for Correction and Rehabilitation after being convicted of a murder he committed at sixteen. When he turns eighteen, he is moved from the juvenile facility to prison so that his death sentence can legally be carried out. Outside the prison walls, his close friend A’la, recently released after serving time for burglary, throws himself into a desperate effort to prevent the execution by securing the victim’s family’s consent to forgive Akbar.
