T‛am-i Gīlās (Taste of Cherry; 1997) is an Iranian film, directed and written by Abbas Kiarostami (ʻAbbās Kiyārustamī). The film revolves around the main character of Mr. Badīyī. In exchange for 200,000 tomans, the latter is looking for someone who can grant his wish. He plans to commit suicide and has dug a grave at the base of a tree. He is only looking for someone to bury his body the morning after he dies. The film, like many of Kiarostami’s works, depicts the characters’ simple and everyday life. In 1997, Kiarostami won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for T‛am-i Gīlās, which was the greatest cinematic achievement for an Iranian film up to that point.
