The ‘Years of Absence’ marked a period of over a decade characterized by the absence of film production in the history of cinematic Iran between 1316 and 1327 HŠ (1937-1948). While pre-existing national socio-economic challenges, including financial difficulties, limited technological infrastructure, and a lack of governmental support, curtailed Iranian film production before 1316 HŠ (1937), these persistent challenges were compounded by the dominance of foreign movies. However, it becomes evident that international political developments played a pivotal role in the cinematic hiatus in Iran during the eleven-year span from 1316 to 1327 HŠ (1937-1948). The outbreak of the Second World War, followed by the Allied occupation of Iran, and ultimately the Azerbaijan Crisis, all contributed to the cessation of Iranian film production. No other Iranian feature film was produced until well after the conclusion of these three political events in 1327 HŠ (1948).
