Gulistān is an Iranian filmmaker, the founder of the Golistān Films, and a literary figure born in Shiraz and currently residing in Sussex, United Kingdom. As a writer, Gulistān has produced several works including Āẕar, māh-i Akhar-i pāʾiz (Azar, The Last Month of Autumn) (1948), Shikār-i sāyah (Hunting the Shadow), (1955), Jūy va dāvār va tishnah (The Brook, the Wall, and the Thirsty One), (1967), Madd va mih (Tide and Fog), (1969), Asrār-i ganj-i darrih-’i jinnī (The Secrets of the Treasure of the Jinn Valley), (1971/3), Rooster, (1995), The Words Spoken (1995).

After meeting the Iranian poet Furūgh Farrukhzād in 1958, he became her close associate and they began producing films together. Gulistān boasts an extensive filmography including documentaries such as Az qatrah tā  daryā (From the Drop to the Sea), (1957), Yak ātash (A fire), (1961), Mawj, marjān, khārā (Wave, Coral and Granit Rock), (1962), Tappihʹhā-yi Mārlīk (The Hills of Marlik,), (1963), Anjumanʹhā-yi rustāyi (Rural Associations), (1965), Javāhirat-i salṭanatī (The Crown Jewels of Iran), (1965), Baẕr  va  kharman (The Seed and The Stack), (1965), and Kharāb-ābād (The Ruins), (1966, short doc), Khāstigārī (Matchmaking), (Short Film,1962), and also feature films: Khisht va āyinah (Brick and Mirror), (1965), and Asrār-i ganj-i darrih-’i jinnī (The Secrets of the Treasure of the Jinn Valley). For his work, Gulistān was the recipient of the Osella di bronzo per I film scientifici at the 1962 Venice International Film Festival for Mawj, marjān, khārā (Wave, Coral, and Granit Rock), (1962), and Osella di bronzo per idocumentariculturali ed educative at the 1961 Venice International Film Festival for Yik ātash.
