Bahman Farmānārā (born January 23, 1942, Tehran) is a worldly renowned Iranian filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor. He embarked on his career as an actor but rose to prominence as a filmmaker, with notable works like Tall Shadows of the Wind (Sāyi-hā-yi Buland-i Bād, 1979) and Smell of Camphor, the Scent of Jasmine (Bū-yi Kāfūr, ‛Atr-i Yās, 2000). Farmanara is recognized for his thought-provoking movies that explore the complexities of human condition and address societal issues. He has received numerous national and international awards. Alongside his career as a filmmaker, he has held positions in Iranian cinematic organizations, making substantial contributions to the country’s film industry.
