Ezzatollah Entezami/Ezzatollāh Entezāmī/عزت الله انتظامی

Ezzatollāh Entezāmī (June 20, 1924 – August 17, 2018), born in Tehran, was a towering figure in Iranian arts, celebrated as the “Master Actor” of Iranian cinema. His illustrious career began on stage with his 1941 debut in Ultimatum at the Paris Theater on Lālehzār Street. Entezāmī gained international recognition for his performance in The Cow (Gāv, 1969), earning the Best Leading Actor award at the Chicago International Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Leading Actor at the Festival des 3 Continents. He also won several Crystal Simorgh awards for his roles in Grand Cinema (Sinemā-ye Bozorg, 1989), Day of the Angel (Rūz-e Fereshteh, 1994), A House Built on Water (Khāneh-ī Rū-ye Āb, 2002), and The River’s End (Gāv Khūnī, 2003). Notable performances include The Tenants (Ejāreh Neshīn-hā, 1987), The Quiet Home (Khāneh-ye Khalvat, 1993), and Colors of Memory (Mīnā-ye Shahr-e Khāmūsh, 2007). A tribute to his achievements was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris in October 2006.
