Irene Zazians (1927-2012), known as Irene, was an Iranian-Armenian actress and a trailblazer in Iranian cinema. Her career spanned both pre and post the 1979 Iranian Revolution, collaborating with renowned directors like Samuel Khāchīkīyān, Amīr Nādirī, and others. Despite facing challenges and film bans after the revolution, she continued to make a significant impact. Irene’s notable work includes her controversial role in ” Nikāh Halālah” (1972). After the revolution, she moved to Germany, retrained as a beautician, and returned to Iran in 1986. Irene’s last cinematic appearance was in ‛Abbās Kīyārustamī’s “Shirin” (2008). She passed away in Tehran in 2012 due to lung cancer.
