Pūrān Dirakhshandah (born March 28, 1951, Kermanshah, Iran) is a renowned Iranian screenwriter, filmmaker, and producer, celebrated for her substantial impact on socially and culturally aware cinema. In her career, which began in the late 1970s following her graduation from Iran’s Broadcasting University, she focused on the lives of marginalized people in Iranian society, especially women and children. Her films, such as Eternal Children (Bachah-hā-yi Ābādī, 2006) and Hush! Girls Don’t Scream (Hīs Dukhtar-hā Faryād Nimīzanand, 2013), mostly addresses issues of social justice and the human condition. Derakhshandeh has emerged as a prominent figure in Iranian films, gaining international acclaim for their compelling narratives, authentic characters, and emotional depth.
