Pūrī Banāyī, born on October 11, 1940, is a renowned Iranian actress who has acted in over 85 feature films from 1965 to 1979, including co-productions with the United States, France, Turkey, and Japan. Her debut film was “The Foreign Bride” (year), directed by Nusrat-allāh Vahdat. In 1969, she starred alongside Bihrūz Vusūqī in Mas‛ūd kīmīyā’ī’s “Qaysar”, which is considered a significant film and a symbol of the Iranian New Wave. Despite many actresses leaving Iran after the 1979 revolution, Banāyī chose to remain in Iran but only appeared as an extra in one feature film following the revolution.
