The movie Ragbār (1971) is the first feature film of Iranian writer and director Bahram Beyzai(BahrāmBayzāʼī). On the one hand, the film tells the story of Mr. Ḥikmatī (ParvīzFannīzādih), a new teacher in a town, and Ātifih (ParvānihM‛asūmī), the sister of one of his students. On the other hand, it follows Ātifih’s life as her relatives and friends consider marrying her off to her butcher neighbor,Rahīm, who has helped the family financially despite Ātifih’s wishes. Finally, the teacher is assigned to another town, and leaves Ātifih without getting married.
