The movie Ragbār (1971) is the first feature film of Iranian writer and director Bahram Beyzai (Bahrām Bayzāʼī). On the one hand, the film tells the story of Mr. Ḥikmatī (Parvīz Fannīzādih), a new teacher in a town, and Ātifih (Parvānih M‛asūmī), the sister of one of his students. On the other hand, it follows Ātifih’s life as her relatives and friends consider marrying her off to her butcher neighbor, Rahīm, who has helped the family financially despite Ātifih’s wishes. Finally, the teacher is assigned to another town, and leaves Ātifih without getting married.
