Tarānah ‛Alī-dūstī, an acclaimed Iranian actress, was born on January 12, 1984. She gained international recognition for her role in “The Salesman” (2016), which won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 89th Academy Awards. ‛Alī-dūstī is well-known for her selective approach to dramatic roles, particularly working with director Asghar Farhādī. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her outstanding performances and is considered one of the most esteemed actresses of her generation. In addition to her acting career, she is also an activist who has boycotted the Academy Awards in protest of travel restrictions and spoken out against human rights violations in Iran. Alidoosti was arrested in 2022 in Iran for criticizing a political execution by the Islamic Republic, but was later released on bail. Her arrest triggered a global outpouring of support for her.
