Stone Lion | Shīr-i sangī | شیرسنگی

PersianAction, Drama 95 min 22 July 1987

The film’s narrative commences with the enigmatic killing of an English soldier near the Bakhtiari region’s oil pipelines. Subsequently, the accusation zeroes in on “Kohiyar,” the offspring of the tribal leader of nomadic herders in the area. Pressured by the British and under the intervention of Qala Neshin Khan, endeavors to apprehend Kohiyar unfold. Eventually, Kohiyar presents himself and subsequently gets apprehended.

However, a turn of events emerges as Ali Yar and his compatriots manage to liberate Kohiyar from captivity. This liberation triggers an armed conflict between the Bakhtiaris and the government forces. Regrettably, this confrontation leads to the demise of Ali Yar and the assassination of Amir at the hands of Namdar Khan’s son.

The culminating scene of the movie captures a profoundly poignant moment as Namdar Khan is profoundly impacted upon discovering Ali Yar’s lifeless body. He expresses his intention to erect a stone lion at Ali Yar’s grave, signifying a lasting tribute.
