Maziar (Iraj Ghaderi) and Parviz (Bahman Mofid) are two half-brothers raised under the guardianship of Afkham al-Dowleh (Iran Ghaderi). Maziar has arranged to marry Maryam (Pouri Banayi), but an earthquake in Qazvin, her hometown, leaves her homeless. At the same time, Maziar hears that his plane has crashed in the Caspian Sea and he is presumed dead. Maziar goes to Qazvin in search of Maryam but returns disappointed. Unbeknownst to Maziar, Maryam finds her way to Afkham al-Dowleh’s house and takes up teaching Quran reading to some teenagers. Parviz is in love with a dancer (Mersedeh Kamiyab), but Afkham al-Dowleh introduces him to Maryam. The two get married, and Maziar sees Maryam at their wedding. They both remain silent about their past. That night, Jasem, the cafe owner, and his henchmen get into a fight with Parviz, and the dancer kills one of them and makes it look like Parviz committed the murder. She persuades Parviz to throw the body into a ravine with a car and spread the rumor that Parviz has been killed. Parviz leaves his wife. He visits Maryam and asks her to keep his being alive a secret. Maryam becomes pregnant, and Afkham al-Dowleh drives her and then Maziar out of his house. Maziar takes care of Maryam and their child, and Parviz, who has become suspicious of their relationship, confronts Maziar and is shot by the dancer.
