The Chubby | تپلی

PersianDrama 120 min 1972

Topoli (Homayoun) is a chubby, simple-minded young man who, along with his cousin Esi (Morteza Aghili), serves in the house of a landlord. Topoli’s behavior, which involves fondling soft objects, leads to them being expelled from the landlord’s house. They are then employed in a lumber mill in a forested area in the north, planning their future with an old man (Nematollah Gorji). However, the wife of the mill owner (Bahram Vatanparast) seduces Topoli, who unintentionally strangles her while in a state of delirium. Topoli and Esi flee to the forest, pursued by Amir, the mill owner, and some of the workers. Bashir (Zackaria Hashemi), the mill’s foreman who sides with Topoli and Esi, is killed before he can stop the attackers. Esi, not wanting Topoli to suffer at the hands of the attackers, shoots him. This film is an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men.”
