PersianComedy, Drama 85 min 1993
An elderly filmmaker receives an award and embarks on a journey through his memories. He reminisces about his childhood while leafing through an old album of films. The story centers around Jamal (Jamshid Mashayekhi), a young orphan with a deep passion for cinema. His father, Sarang, works as a censor officer and secretly enjoys Friday night movies at the city cinema. Meanwhile, Saegheh, a young woman in love with Jamal’s sister, eagerly awaits the return of Nazmieh’s son from Turkey, hoping to win her over. Sarang, still grieving the loss of his wife, finds solace in Mrs. Gol’dooneh’s café visits. Mrs. Gol’dooneh suggests he seek help from a doctor to heal his heartache, but the doctor faces political issues. Sarang eventually agrees, despite his reservations. Jamal befriends Mehri, the doctor’s granddaughter, much to Sarang’s disapproval. Saegheh insists her mother’s marriage to Sarang depends on her acceptance of him as a suitor. Against Sarang’s former wife’s objections, a secret wedding takes place between Jamal and Saegheh, unbeknownst to the stepmother. During the ceremony, Sarang suffers a stroke, and it appears he has passed away. However, the arrival of the stepmother interrupts the wedding, leading to Sarang’s surprising recovery and renewed interest in his former wife. The doctor is later arrested and exiled, causing Mehri and Jamal to be separated. As the movie returns to the present, the filmmaker gazes at the album of films, filled with a sense of longing and regret.
