The White Meadows | Keshtzārhā-ye Sepīd | کشتزارهای سپید
PersianDrama 92 min 2009
Rahmat drifts across a chain of isolated islands in a vast salt landscape on an enigmatic mission: to gather the tears of the inhabitants. For years, people have handed their tears over to him, even though no one seems to know what purpose this ritual serves or where the tears ultimately go. Accompanied by a young boy searching for his missing father, Rahmat’s journey moves from one island community to the next, gradually unfolding into an allegorical critique that sharpens, by the film’s end, into a pointed reflection on Iran’s political order and the mechanisms of authority.
