Majid Majidi (born April 14, 1959) is an Iranian director, screenwriter, and actor. His film "Children of Heaven" was among the final five nominees for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 1999 Oscars, making him the first Iranian director to receive an Oscar nomination. Majidi, with four Crystal Simorgh awards for Best Director at the Fajr Film Festival, holds the record for the most wins in this category among Iranian directors. He also directed documentaries covering the 2009 presidential election, featuring Mir Hossein Mousavi.
