
Abbas Kiarostami
Key Frame: In May 2024, Cinema Iranica at the University of Toronto, in collaboration with the Elahè Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies, launched a biographical docuseries titled "Key Frame". This series highlights the life and work of iconic Iranian filmmakers, offering an in-depth look into the pioneers of Iranian cinema. The second episode of Key Frame is dedicated to Abbas Kiarostami, one of the most influential Iranian filmmakers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Kiarostami, known for his groundbreaking contributions to both narrative and documentary cinema, was a poet, photographer, director, screenwriter, and producer. Over his career, which began in the 1970s, Kiarostami directed more than forty films, earning worldwide acclaim and numerous awards. His works, such as Taste of Cherry and The Wind Will Carry Us, reshaped the landscape of global cinema. Sadly, Kiarostami passed away in 2016 due to medical complications, but his legacy continues to inspire filmmakers around the world.
