Armyn Naderi
Armyn Naderi is an independent filmmaker and researcher who is currently collaborating with the Cinema Iranica Project and the Elahe Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies at the University of Toronto. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Cinema in Tehran, but his interest in filmmaking dates back many years. In 2013, he co-founded the Noghteh Group, and as part of the group’s mission, he has produced numerous documentaries. His docuseries, “Iran’s Cinema in Pursuit of Happiness,” is a joint project with the Cinema Iranica Project. Naderi’s primary interest lies in historical research, and he published the script of his documentary about Omar Khayyam in 2021. This book, titled “Broken Grail,” begins with an introduction to the importance of historiography and documentation.
In addition to his research and documentary work, Naderi is also passionate about fiction. He has written and directed various short fiction films. One of his short films, “A Borrowed Life,” has received awards at numerous international film festivals, including the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival 2023, and is now available on Prime Video.
