Laudan Nooshin is Professor of Music at City, University London, UK. Her research interests include contemporary developments in Iranian traditional and popular musics, music and sound in urban space, with a particular focus on Tehran, music and sound in Iranian cinema and music and gender. She has published widely and is currently writing a book on the sounds of Tehran (for a project supported by The Leverhulme Trust, https://www.sonictehran.com/). Laudan is co-founder of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Music Studies Network and a Vice-President of the Royal Musical Association. In the current academic year, she is on an AHRC secondment to the architectural design company Charcoalblue.

Throughout her career, Laudan has been committed to community engagement, outreach and impact work. In 2008, she organised and led an educational trip to Iran with 6 music students from City University, who fell in love with the country and described the visit as life-changing. In 2010-12, Laudan ran a project in partnership with the Education and Community Department at the London Philharmonic Orchestra introducing British primary school children to Iran and its music, poetry and history through the story of Zal from the Shahnameh. More recently, she worked with children’s publisher Tiny Owl to create a picture book (published 2019) based on the same story with specially composed music.
