Mohammad Tahaminezhad is a leading scholar in Iranian cinema studies, documentary filmmaking, and cultural representation in visual media. His extensive career spans critical film analysis, historical research, and documentary production, establishing him as one of the foremost figures in chronicling Iran’s cinematic heritage and its intersection with societal transformations.

His documentaries, such as Sīnamā-yi Īrān az Mashrūṭīyat tā Sipantā (Cinema of Iran from Constitutionalism to Sepanta, 1970), Yādī az Mubārizāt-i Duktur Ḥusayn Fāṭimī (A Remembrance of Dr. Hossein Fatemi’s Struggles, 1980), and Yādgārhā-yi Sīstān (The Legacy of Sistan, 1988), are hallmarks of his dedication to capturing Iran’s cultural and historical narratives. Tahaminezhad’s academic contributions include significant studies like Rīshah-yābī-yi Ya’s dar Sīnamā-yi Īrān (The Roots of Despair in Iranian Cinema) and Taḥavvul-i Tārīkhī-yi Dastgāh-i Filmhā-yi Faḥkhī va Kūmidī dar Īrān (The Historical Transformation of Humor and Comedy in Iranian Films), as well as articles on visual memory and ethnographic cinema.

In addition to his prolific writing, he has translated key works such as Muqaddimah-ī bar Mustanad (Introduction to Documentary) by Bill Nichols and Sīnamā va Tārīkh (Cinema and History) by Marc Ferro. His editorial and archival work with the National Film Archive of Iran led to the rediscovery and documentation of numerous forgotten Iranian films, culminating in widely cited publications and curated film series.

Tahaminezhad has also played a pivotal role in academia, teaching documentary filmmaking at institutions such as Dānishkadah-yi Ṣūrah (Sureh University) and Mu’assasah-yi Āmūzish-ʿĀlī-yi Sipihr (Sepehr Higher Education Institute) in Isfahan. He has participated in international conferences, including the Hamāyish-i Bīnamilalī-yi

Bāznamāyī-yi Taṣvīrī-yi Īrān (International Conference on Visual Representations of Iran) at the University of St. Andrews, contributing profoundly to the global understanding of Iranian cinema. His work continues to inspire and guide a new generation of filmmakers and scholars in the field of Iranian cinema studies.
