Nacim Pak-Shiraz

Professor Nacim Pak-Shiraz holds the Personal Chair of Cinema and Iran at the University of Edinburgh, specialising in cinema, visual culture, Islam, and gender in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Iran. She has published extensively on Iranian cinema and visual culture, including Shi‘i Islam and Iranian Cinema: Religion and Spirituality in Film (2011) and the special issue Visualizing Iran: From Antiquity to the Present (2017).

Professor Pak-Shiraz also serves as a governor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Institute of Ismaili Studies, London. She has previously held leadership roles as Head of the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh, as a National Committee member of the Aga Khan Foundation (UK), and as a member of the Academic Council of the Iran Heritage Foundation.

In addition to her academic contributions, she is an active film festival curator and has served as a jury member and speaker at numerous international film festivals.
