Rojano Mohammadzadeh

Rojano Mohammadzadeh is a self-taught Iranian visual artist currently pursuing her MFA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her journey into the art world began in architecture, where years of working on construction sites exposed her to raw and often overlooked materials of the built environment. Collecting discarded fragments from these sites inspired her initial explorations in collage, and over time her practice has evolved to encompass painting, sculpture, and performance.

Guided by intuition rather than rigid methodologies, Rojano selects materials and media based on the emotional and conceptual requirements of each project. Her current body of work investigates the experiences of displaced bodies—exploring themes of uprooting, transformation, and assimilation into host environments. Drawing parallels to marriage as a symbolic process of merging and adaptation, her recent projects increasingly focus on the rituals, symbolism, and performativity associated with marital ceremonies.
