This research explores how cinema depicts the complex interaction between gender and urban environments, examining both the constraints and capacities of cinematic representation. It analyzes various sexualized subjects in cinema, considering the influence of public/private, external/internal, and peripheral/central spaces on shaping identity and relationships. Moreover, it investigates how sexualized subjects contribute to urban spaces through processes of sexualization, aiming to understand the dialectical relationship between gender and urban landscapes. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from Derrida, Lacan, Lefebvre, and Žižek, the study aims to illuminate gendered experiences in Iranian cinema. It addresses whether Iranian cinema critiques or obscures tensions, explores how the city affects sexual identity and individual agency, and examines the city’s role in desire construction and its relationship with capitalist systems and individualism resulting from urbanization.
