Cinema characters always have great importance for both filmmakers and researchers. Filmmakers can make their movies more engaging and successful by creating believable and memorable characters. On the other hand, cinema researchers are always curious about the way characters act and react in the movies and how these actions affect the audience, since the audience most of the time relate themselves to these characters. Many theorists have been trying to frame these actions and categorize different kinds of characters. Joseph Campbell (2008) presents a pattern for a hero journey in which redemption for a hero means to leave one’s natural life and start a journey in which he comes to an understanding of himself and his world and returns as a new person. Keeping this in mind, we have tried to do a concise study on Iran’s cinema from 1951-2024. Our main goal from this research is to see how do the heroes of Iran’s cinema react to the conflicts with which they encounter during their life in the movie, whether they are active characters or they are just passive viewers who wait for the destiny to solve everything for them. The results of this study have been gathered in form of several articles and a docuseries entitled “Iran’s Cinema in Pursuit of Happiness”. In the first episode of this research, we study the important movies which were made between 1951 to 1971.
